Filipinas Optimistic About Core Retention Despite Stajcic's Departure
A new chapter is set to begin for the Philippine Women’s National Football Team after Alen Stajcic and his coaching team secured positions with Isuzu UTE A-League’s Perth Glory.
Under Stajcic’s guidance, the Filipinas achieved unprecedented success. They reached the semifinals of the 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup, won a bronze medal in the 31st Southeast Asian Games, clinched victory in the 2022 AFF Women’s Championship on home soil, and even defeated the hosts of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, New Zealand.
Stajcic’s decision to join Perth Glory, a club facing ownership challenges and finishing ninth in the last season, reflects his penchant for challenges. However, for the Filipinas, a new chapter begins as they await news about their next head coach to follow in Stajcic’s footsteps.
Defender Sofia Harrison expressed, “I believe as long as we uphold our core values, stick together as a united group, as a family – the coaching staff transition won’t impact our ability to achieve the same set goals.”
Forward Chandler McDaniel added, “Undoubtedly, we owe a great deal of our achievements over the past 18 months to our coaches. We all share that sentiment.”
